The Community Health Centre offers many health and wellness programs and everyone is welcome to participate.

Many of our programs are offered in our neighbouring communities and most programs are FREE of charge.

Facilitated by NLCHC volunteers, a healthy hot lunch is provided on the First Wednesday of each month from October to June.

The cost is $8.00 per person with an entertainment program following the luncheon.

This Lambton Public Health program teaches parents what to expect with pregnancy and delivery and focuses on a healthy pre-natal lifestyle.

Breastfeeding Support

Breast feeding support is offered to all women as availability presents. Moms may book an appointment with a NP, RN or dietitian for assistance and support. Moms may be further referred to a lactation consultant through Lambton Public Health. Breast pumps are available for use for one month with the purchase of their own tubing.

Breastfeeding Buddies

Breastfeeding Buddies of Lambton County

Mom-2-Mom Breastfeeding support

Helping YOU have Breastfeeding Success!

A "Breastfeeding Buddy" is a supportive and caring trained volunteer who has breastfed themselves for a minimum of 6 months and received additional certifies training. A Buddy will be able to connect with you over the phone or at an Ontario Early Years Centre near you.

Buddies will:

  • Understand and listen to your story
  • Provide encouragement and tips to help you successfully start or continue with breastfeeding
  • Be able to provide you with up-to-date breastfeeding information and resources
  • Respond to any questions and concerns that you might have
  • Help you connect to organizations and agencies for additional support if needed
  • Share experiences of successful breastfeeding stories

The program is an initiative of Best Start: Ontario's Maternal Newborn and Early Child Development Resource Centre.

Baby and Toddler Food Making Workshops

Meet with a Registered Dietitian and learn how to introduce solids foods to your little one’s meals or discuss health eating strategies for picky eaters. Workshops may include learning how to make homemade baby food or creating a balanced meals giving them the best start possible. Car Seat Safety Checks

Child Car Seat Clinics are offered periodically throughout the year. Trained Child Car Seat Technicians will be available at these events. This offers parents and caregivers a chance to come get their child car seats checked for compliance to Transport Canada standards and to ensure that the seat is properly installed according to the vehicle and child car seat manual as per St. John Ambulance standards. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to be involved with the installation so that they understand how to move the seat from vehicle to vehicle and install it correctly on their own.

Youth

Afterschool Program

A free afterschool program for children ages 6-13 years. Children will participate in a variety of different physical activities and games to promote healthy lifestyles. A nutritious snack will be offered that the children will help prepare. Children will also have time to express their creativity through fun and meaningful crafts.

Chronic Illness Program

The Chronic Illness Program provides patient centred support and education to those living with chronic illness and their caregivers. The goal of the program is to prevent hospital admissions through increased access to care. The team consists of a nurse and a community navigator in collaboration with providers, organizations, individuals, families, and community groups. Multiple strategies and interventions are used to empower individuals to increase control over their health.

The Chronic Illness program has a peer led support group for those living with illness and for their caregivers.
